While we are competitive in nature we are also collaborative, the human race would not have survived without collectivism and collaboration. In the workplace this translates to building an environment that encourages working together - paired coding, cross-functional collaborative projects, etc. I’ve found that companies I’ve worked for that encourage collaboration typically have higher job satisfaction and attrition rates than those that pit the developers against each other
